Ulava Charu

Ingredients:
Ulavalu(Horse gram) – 1 1/2 cup
Water – 6 cups
For grinding:
Cumin seeds – 1tsp
Coriander powder – 1 1/2 tsp
Cardomom – 4
Clove – 1
Cinnamon -1/4 inch
Red chilli powder as required
Salt as required
Pepper – 1 pinch
Tamarind Juice (not thick) -1/4 or 1/2 cup
Garlic flakes – 4
cooked horse gram -1/4 cup
For seasoning:
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Crushed garlic flakes -3
Dry red chilli -4
Curry leaves
Turmeric
Method:
Clean the horse gram .In a pressure cooker boil the horse gram dal along with 6 cups of water upto 4 whistles on medium on medium flame.Let it cool for some time.Separate the water from cooked horse garam.keep it aside.
Grind all above ingredients (Cumin seeds – 1tsp, Coriander powder – 1 1/2 tsp, Cardomom – 4, Clove – 1, Cinnamon -1/4 inch, Red chilli powder as required, Salt as required, Pepper – 1 pinch, Tamarind Juice (not thick) -1/4 or 1/2 cup, Garlic flakes – 4, cooked horse gram -1/4 cup) into fine paste.
Heat oil in vessel add mustard seeds and cumin seeds when it splutter add garlic flakes ,red chilli,curry leaves and tuemeric .Fry for few seconds.Pour horse gram water into it and then add above ground paste to it.Mix it well .Let it boil on medium flame for 15 to 20 minutes.Garnish with coriander leaves.
